This small leather book contains the “Rule” or way of life for the Society of Jesus, founded in 1540 by Ignatius of Loyola. Members of the Jesuit order take vows of poverty, chastity and obedience, as well as a fourth vow of obedience specifically in regard to worldwide mission. Jesuit priests served as pastors of Saint Mary from 1795 to 1891.
